A Strong Female Presence in Caribbean Newsrooms
Thursday, 08 March 2012
According to the U.K.'s Independent newspaper investigation to mark International Women's Day - the Caribbean is the best place in the world to be a female journalist. This is the region with the highest proportion of TV, print and radio news stories reported by women (45 per cent). The worst region is Africa, with 30 per cent of stories reported by women. Europe comes in at 35 per cent.
"The strong female presence in our newsrooms and media enterprises has for some time been an outstanding feature of the media landscape. In Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and Barbados, in particular, women have played strong roles in leadership positions and have, in effect, greatly contributed toward the development of the new journalism the region requires."
